Greetings from your newly elected President! I am super excited about this new position and all the possibilities this station holds.
First, I want to congratulate the National Family Reunion Team!
Christina Shipps and Sara Wing did an outstanding job and should be very proud of the work they put into this year’s reunion. It wasn’t an easy task to cater to the needs and wants of over 120 family members, but they and their volunteers are to be commended for a job well done! If you missed this year, you missed a great gathering of some pretty terrific people. Ideas, thoughts and goals were shared as well as stories – true and should be true – recollections and desires. It was a great learning experience for me and I hope that you all get the chance to share with us one year soon.
I am humbled by the work, effort, love, joy, tears and fears that go into making this organization of family a great place to be. I wanted to highlight each committee and the spearheads that put so much of their time and effort into WFA, but my “quick note” became a four-chapter book! But I digress. Each committee has taken their role in this effort very seriously and every year grows this organization with strong steady and determined strides. I hope you are as proud of them as I am!
Please do not think that just because I am proud, or because of the great work this team of volunteers does, you are not needed! Quite the contrary! We are ALWAYS looking for people who are willing to donate their time and knowledge to our cause! Your particular skill set is perfect for an occasion or project. The problem is, I don’t know what your skill set is, or where your interest lies. So, it is up to you to share it with us. If you would like to get more involved in the day to day, or month to month of WFA, please let me know. Maybe you are interested in one of the cornerstones of the organization like genealogy, or the museum. Maybe you are interested in organizing group gatherings, or social media. Maybe you just have ideas we haven’t discussed yet. We have a spot reserved for you!
With all the work that has gone into the Wing Family of America these recent years, I am so excited about where the family is headed! I’d like to personally re-invite you to grab a family member (or 10) and journey with us. I want to re-engage you, our cousins, with our story. We are an organization of members for the members. I am asking you to help me make this organization one you want to share with your family, so that it continues to grow into the next 400 years.
Thank you for your prayers and the trust you have in us,
Melanie Hendrix
