WFA Genealogy Beginnings
One of the missions of the WFA is to collect and preserve genealogical records for the descendants of John and Deborah. Thanks to the efforts of family members, the WFA had an excellent starting point. The first published Wing genealogy was A Historical and Genealogical Register of John Wing, of Sandwich, Mass., And His Descendants, 1662-1881 compiled by Rev. Conway P. Wing.

Started by Col. George Washington Wing in 1899, our annual publication, The OWL, has offered a way for family members to share their genealogical information. After Col. Wing’s death, the WFA continued to collect genealogies and publish information through the OWL.

For much of our history, most of our collection has been from family members reporting either first-hand information about their own family or their own research. While it is easier now to do research with online sources, it can lead to inaccuracies. To reduce errors, we strive for accuracy by incorporating facts into the WFA tree backed by personal knowledge and/or reliable sources.
Genealogy Books
In May 2006, the WFA published Wing Genealogy Volume 1 Rev. John Wing and his wife Deborah Bachiler. This volume was compiled by former WFA Genealogist Raymond Wing and includes the first five generations of Rev. John and Deborah. This volume was updated and reprinted in February 2015.

With one volume completed, the WFA set the goal of publishing books for the subsequent generations. There are 93 great-grandchildren of Rev. John and Deborah with active lines. We envision one volume per great-grandchild with the depth of each volume dictated by the number of descendants.

In 2021, the WFA published Wing Genealogy Volume 78 Thankful Wing, which covers Thankful Wing and five generations of her descendants. This volume was compiled and edited by Irene Clough Hahn and Dan M. Johnson.

We have members who are working on additional volumes. If you would like to be part of one of these projects, please contact our genealogy team.
